The olive grove is present throughout the province of Jaén, a unique landscape located in the heart of Andalusia. Jaén is the world's leading producer of extra virgin olive oil.
Olive oil is the star product and the most appreciated item of the Mediterranean diet, and it has been declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the Unesco in 2010 for its healthy characteristics. Its consumption prevents ageing and improves health.
Jaén Selección is a quality distinction created by the government of the province of Jaén in 2003. It includes the finest extra virgin olive oils from each harvest in the province. This distinction awards excellence in the quality of this product. In 2018 it was awarded to eight oils, all of the picual variety. These extra virgin olive oils are 100% certified.
The oils are selected at a tasting event held every year, with the participation of an official laboratory and a board of judges made up of professionals from Spain’s best panels.
This distinction of quality is awarded to one organic oil and seven conventionally grown oils, which represent the very best from the 2017-18 harvest in the province of Jaén.
After selection, the oils are present in all tourist and agri-food promotional activities of Jaén, and they play a leading role in Oleotour Jaén tourism strategy.
Jaén gives you the perfect setting for olive oil tourism through a varied offer relating to olive groves and olive oil: museums, olive mills, specialised shops, themed restaurants, farmhouses, food tastings, oil tasting events, and much more.
